Accessibility means giving people access to the world around them whether that be access to a building for a wheelchair user via a ramp or by producing an electronic book which will work with text to speech software for someone with a print impairment. Without accessibility the world loses much of its colour. Imagine a world where you were unable to read independently, study effectively, visit your favourite restaurant or get inside your local bank.
Giving access to books and documents can be done through providing accessible print and digital formats such as braille, large print or accessible PDFs. Accessible web design is becoming more popular with an expectation that websites are now meeting W3C standards.
Offering an accessible window to your products, services and documents allows a business to reach a further 20% of the population – a no-brainer surely!
